Dixie Chicks - I Can Love You Better

I Can Love You Better was the first official single from the Dixie Chicks' fourth studio album Wide Open Spaces. Most people assume that Wide Open Spaces was the Chicks first album. Even though it was their fourth, it was their first album with Natalie Maines as the lead vocalist.

I Can Love You Better went all the way to #7 on the Billboard Hot Country charts, and it was the beginning of a string of top ten hits for the Dixie Chicks until ten days before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, when Natalie said "We don't want this war, this violence; and, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas" while they were on tour in Europe.

That one statement offended more people than they could have ever imagined. They were basically banned from almost every country music station, and only their 2006 song Not Ready To Make Nice made it into the country top 40, peaking at #36. Since the statement, they've had pretty good success on the pop charts, but they're still non-existent on the country scene.

AC/DC - High Voltage

High Voltage is a single from AC/DC's 1975 Australian album T.N.T. and from their 1976 international release High Voltage. It's one of their most popular songs and has evolved into an audience favorite. It was a top ten hit in Australia back in 1975. Enjoy!

Matchbox Twenty - Long Day

Matchbox Twenty's debut album Yourself or Someone Like You spawned six big hits. Their debut single from the album was Long Day, and it's still my favorite Matchbox Twenty song. It was released as a single in 1996, and it peaked at #8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. During the late 90's, it was almost impossible to turn on a pop or rock radio station without hearing a Matchbox Twenty album, and their videos were played relentlessly on both MTV and VH1 as well. They definitely suffered from over-exposure, but they still remain one of the best pop rock bands of the 90's. Enjoy!

Kiss Performing New York Groove Live In Concert

If ever there was a song that didn't match the look of the band, New York Groove by Kiss was that song. Check out this rare video I found. It's Ace Frehley singing lead on KISS's 1978 single New York Groove. This song was actually included on Ace Frehley's 1978 solo album, but the song was released as a KISS single. It's almost comical watching Gene Simmons sing backup to this song while looking so ominous in his trademark makeup. Enjoy!

Before the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, the biggest selling boy band of the 80's was New Kids On The Block. They shot to fame after releasing Please Don't Go Girl in 1988 as the first single from their second album called Hangin' Tough. It peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Enjoy!

America Performing A Horse With No Name Live

A Horse With No Name was America's debut single from their self-titled debut album back in 1972. (Actually, they released the first version of the album in 1971 without A Horse With No Name because it hadn't been recorded yet, but after the single became a huge hit, they re-released the album with the song.)

It spent three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1972. Enjoy!

The Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider

Midnight Rider is one of The Allman Brothers Band's biggest hits. The first version of the song was a track on the Allman's 1970 Idlewild South album. It's never been released as a single, but in the Fall of 1973, Gregg Allman released a re-imagined version of the song on his first solo album, Laid Back. It featured the addition of horns and a solo rather than harmony vocal line, and it reached #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1974. Here they are performing the song live. Enjoy!

Get Together was the only top 40 hit for The Youngbloods, but it was a huge one. It peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in late 1969. It has sense become an anthem for peace-loving groups around the world and epitomized the hippie lifestyle during the late 60's and early 70's. Enjoy!

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Smells Like Teen Spirit is considered to be the song that put a hammer through the heart of the 80's hair bands. In 1991, it peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and it went to #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts. More significantly, it represented a shift in rock music popularity from the glam of the 80's to the grunge of the 90's. Enjoy!

Sugarland - Baby Girl

I just watched Sugarland perform a new song called Love at the 2008 CMA Awards. It seems like they've been around forever, but in reality, they've only been on the national stage for about four years. Back in 2004, their debut single Baby Girl peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country charts and went to #1 on the Canadian Country charts. It also peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, which is no small feat for a debut single from a country band. Enjoy!

Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under was the song that started it all for country superstar Shania Twain. Back in 1995, she released her second album called The Woman in Me, and this song was the first single from the album. It was also her first #1 Canadian Country single as well as her first top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot Country charts, peaking at #11. She would follow up this single with her first #1 country single in the U.S. with Any Man of Mine. Enjoy!
