Gregg Allman, the heart and soul of the Allman Brothers Band turned 61 today. Gregg was born on this day back in 1947. In honor of his birthday, here's Melissa, my favorite Allman Brothers Band song. Happy Birthday Gregg!
Midnight Rider is one of The Allman Brothers Band's biggest hits. The first version of the song was a track on the Allman's 1970 Idlewild South album. It's never been released as a single, but in the Fall of 1973, Gregg Allman released a re-imagined version of the song on his first solo album, Laid Back. It featured the addition of horns and a solo rather than harmony vocal line, and it reached #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1974. Here they are performing the song live. Enjoy!
Jessica is one of the most famous rock instrumental songs in the history of rock music. It's also one of the Allman Brothers' biggest hits. It was released as a single back in 1973. Here's the band performing the song live at an outdoor concert. Enjoy!
Today's Flashback Video of the Day is the Allman Brothers performing one of their signature songs, Ramblin' Man, live in concert. Ramblin' Man is their only top 10 single. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts back in 1973. It was held out of the #1 slot by Gregg Allman's future wife Cher and her song Half Breed. Enjoy!
